GUEST MIX: CC/NN
One half of FLASHLIGHTS & CCERULEANN and the creative force behind CC/NN.
For April’s guest mix things are getting extra funky.
(I’m a few days late in getting this up so my apologies.)

1. Vanessa - imprintafter
-This was a last minute addition. A friend, DJ baby shoe, suggested this track after he heard the others on this mix. I really enjoy this track. Really high quality chill wave with some Millionyoung like vocals.
2. Know Me (Le Chev Remix) - Frankie Rose
-My sister recently bought a record player, and one of her first purchases was a Frankie Rose 7” with this remix on the B side. Just a chilled out low tempo disco type tune. Perfect for driving or just lounging around.
3. Gold (Snakehips Bootleg) - Bondax
-The first time I heard this track I immediately thought it was off the new Justin Timberlake album, and as good as that album is, this track is leaps and bounds ahead of it. Smooth vocals with lots of awesome accent synths.
4. Scarlett Grove - Maribou State
-This track just makes me want to be dancing in the jungle with this tracks lead vocals ripping through it. The percussion is amazing, and the minimal piano chords are a nice addition. A steady groove throughout the whole track will keep you dancing, or at least doing the hipster shrug.
5. Sweet On U - Real Cosby (unreleased)
-From the new Real Cosby EP, Earl Juice, out 05/28/2013 on Shoeboxx Recordings. Real Cosby continues to drop new music that gets better and better. He is really honing his craft. His sound is familiar, yet has it’s own niche. I can’t wait for his new EP to drop. Big things happening in Colorado.
6. The Hardest Part - Kisses
-I struggled including this track, because in the beginning of it, it doesn’t seem to fit so well. But this track just has a very special feeling for me. I have no idea what that feeling is or why I have it, but I really love the combination of “indie rock” fused with some awesome bass synths, and minimal synth pads.
7. iPLayYouListen - ODESZA
-This song sucks you in with the intriguing vowel vocal chops, but keeps you cozy with some powerful undulating bass lines. It’s a nice place to be, fast enough to dance, but the feel is slow enough that you can just relax and enjoy the intricacies  of the background bells.
8. Porcelain & Pewter - Vyxor
-VYXOR, what can I say about this pop genius? He’s taking contemporary electronic pop and not only injecting it with HGH, and steroids, but he’s making pop music interesting again. I LOVE pop, but it’s easy to lose yourself in it. You may not always fathom everything that went on in the track, but with Vyxor, your interest is piqued with every new crazy descending synth line or dazzling, perfectly in whack, break. I see big things for this guy in the future.
9. Shooting Holes - Twin Shadow
- The little pickup that happens after the line, “Let’s sing a song, on our way back home” is the EPIC. And I hate using that word. It’s the ultimate pick me up. It says, “Hey remember that time you were sad? You don’t? Ya me either.” Plus who doesn’t want to shoot holes at the moon.
10. I Can’t Believe You’re Leaving Me (Fulgeance Rework) - The Bar Kays
-This last song is another gem found by DJ babyshoe. The intro of this rework leads you to believe that you are in for a simple relaxing vibe throughout, but if you aren’t dancing like a crazy person to the sprinkler hi-hat’s and bass groove about forty seconds in, then you might want to check your pulse.

Do What You Do

KEV//BOT - KEATS//COLLECTIVE VOL. 3

KEV//BOT-Do What You Do

Is it too early to get this sexy? Probably so seeing as how it’s only around 1pm here but with that aside, this latest compilation from KEATS//COLLECTIVE is one that deserves to be played regardless of where you are or the time of day. Despite the label/ collective having only been around since July, they’ve easily grown to become one of my personal favorites, and I’m reminded of that with every new compilation or release that they drop. To say that I’ve been waiting for Volume 3 to see the light of day (or the computer screen) would be somewhat of an understatement but it’s been on constant rotation ever since earlier this month. The magic behind each compilation lies in its versatility and knack for hinting at bits of both the new and old school when it comes to electronic, funk, and soul, and there’s not a single artist featured on here that doesn’t manage to shine in their own respective way. Volume 3 features tracks from KEV//BOT, DINOSAURUS REX, sloslylove, HAZ SOLO, KANOBA, and many more so don’t hesitate to grab it on bandcamp for free and make your day full of smooth, aural bliss. You can also pick up albums from KEV//BOT, DINOSAURUS REX, Flamingosis, imprintafter, and CROWNS while you’re there for various prices.

Special Kiss

Dreamboat - Dreamboat 12"

Dreamboat-Special Kiss

Being born in 1990, I don’t really know much about the 80’s at all aside from the music during the time, so I’m totally cool with new bands working to bring the sound back for my generation’s ears. The Miami duo Dreamboat, which consists of Psychic Mirror’s frontman Mickey de Grand IV on vocals and EDG4R on production, is making sure to do just that while putting a slightly new spin on the retro grooves of the past as well. The seductive and upbeat “Special Kiss” comes from the group’s upcoming 12” release via People’s Potential and it keeps the spirit of funk alive and well with an undeniably catchy beat, layers of glowing, dance floor ready synths, and de Grand’s peculiar yet enthralling vocals. Dreamboat will be dropping their debut EP later on this year and their 12” release is scheduled to drop sometime in March, but if you want to hear more groovy sounds in the meantime then don’t hesitate to boogie on down to Cosmic Chronic’s soundcloud and check out some of the other artists signed to the label.

GUEST MIX: DINOSAURUS REX
Having released LPs like Cosby Sweater, POP INFORMATION, and The Looks earlier this year, there’s no doubt about it that Colorado resident Dan Bombard aka Dinosaurus Rex, is one of the funkiest producers in the scene right now. Dan was awesome enough to put together this slick ten track guest mix for the blog and if you’re looking to kick back over the weekend or just get those holiday tunes out of your head then this is exactly what you need to have bumping through your speakers. If you enjoy it then feel free to download it here and don’t forget to follow the bandcamp/soundcloud links to check out more material from Dinosaurus Rex and all of the other featured artists.
Shout out to Micheal Redkey aka CROWNS for putting together the amazing artwork.

Toro y Moi-So Many Details

Well it’s about time that tumblr started to work because Toro y Moi just dropped his new video for “So Many Details”, the first single from his third full length album Anything In Return, and of course I had to show it some love. I’ve heard this track tons of times by now and you probably all have too but even still, after seeing the video I can’t help but to be even more excited for Chaz’s upcoming release and plus it’s always nice to have some visuals to accompany such a great song. Settle down, maybe sip on some wine, and let Toro y Moi do what he does best. Anything in Return will be released via Carpark Records on January 22nd.

Room Enough

Lindsay Lowend -

Lindsay Lowend-Room Enough

I unintentionally took a little break from posting but now that I’m back, I’ve got a track that will make up for my brief absence. I came across Washington’s Lindsay Lowend a few weeks ago when I heard his track “Glacial” on KEATS//COLLECTIVE VOL.2 and ever since I’ve been a bit addicted to his overall distinctive and smooth sound. “Room Enough” eases in slowly but it quickly changes pace as it bursts open with an undeniably sleek vocal loop and wraps the listener up in layers of dazzling, glitchy synth lines and sensual undertones. The tension between R&B tenderness and hip hop grittiness makes the track that much more enjoyable and if you’re anything like me then I’m sure that you’ll be putting it on repeat as soon as it’s finished. If you want to check out more material from Lindsay Lowend then head over to soundcloud. Your ears will be grateful for it.
