BEHIND THE TRACKS: INTERIORS

The main purpose of every one of these “behind the tracks” posts or interviews is to introduce new music to all of you along with getting to know the artists behind it just a bit more and see what’s in store for them. Every month I try to get in touch with two bands or musicians that I feel deserve to get some attention and what better place to get that then through the internet or better yet, tumblr. I happen across new artists just about every day or so, but this one in particular stuck out and grabbed a hold of my attention with a sound that’s both unique and mystifying. So for my second feature I decided to have a chat with Thomas Thorson, the man behind the future pop/ electronic sounds of Portland based project Interiors, and talk about upcoming releases, favorite albums of the year, The Dark Arts Festival held in Oregon earlier this year, and a little bit more. I can’t think of a proper way to end this, so like Mario says in Mario 64 “Heeere we goooo!!!”

Ruby Sun

FLASHLIGHTS-Ruby Sun

It’s Friday and whether you’re going out or not it’s always good to have some music that sets the mood for an awesome night or weekend in general. I’ve been busy working on a new mixtape for you all and this track comes from one of the bands that I’ve decided to feature. “Ruby Sun” comes to you from Colorado future pop duo FLASHLIGHTS and it’s just what you need to provide some dance worthy sounds that will certainly have you moving in your living room or in the car or wherever you might be. The music that FLASHLIGHTS makes is infectious and with their latest ep So Close To Midnight they bring the club straight to your ears. The synths are dazzling and vibrant and along with the soft hypnotizing vocals it all flows together amazingly. You can stream all of their material over at soundcloud but be sure to grab their ep for free over at bandcamp. Recommended or fans of Miami Horror, Starfucker, and Parentz.

Obedear

Purity Ring - Shrines

Purity Ring-Obedear

Ever since they came on the scene about a year ago with their singles “Lofticries” and “Ungirthed” future pop duo Purity Ring have gained quite the following. I can’t say how many times I’ve listened to the three songs they have out but now I can rejoice. The band’s debut album Shrines will be out July 24 and just as they promised they’ve given us the first taste right at midnight. The new single goes by “Obedear” and after hearing this I’m even more excited for this release. It has the same feel as past Purity Ring tracks which isn’t a bad thing at all seeing as how they’re currently one of my favorite groups out now. To download the track just head over to the band’s website but if you want to hear their prior songs they’re available via soundcloud.

JAMES & EVANDER - Ambigamy

James and Evander-Ambigamy

Ever since I first heard of  Oakland duo James and Evander I’ve been hooked. Their unique style of future pop has a way of getting stuck in your head and with “Ambigamy” they’ve created another track to play on repeat. This track is chilled out yet it still makes you want to dance at the same time. If this is any indication of how their debut album Bummer Pop will sound then I’m going to mark my calendar now for May 15th. They’ve released a good amount of eps and remixes that you can pick up on bandcamp for either free download or whatever price you choose to pay. While you’re there check out their latest 7” Let’s Go featuring remixes from Teen Daze, Yalls, and Some Ember. Also, more tracks are available on soundcloud.

Before You Know It

Parentz-Before You Know It

Today I’m going to start off with another artist signed to Chill Mega Chill Records. Jeremy Sullivan goes by the alias Parentz and he makes smooth synthpop, R&B influenced sounds. His track “fly” was featured on PORTALS first mixtape and after hearing that I had to head over to bandcamp and listen to more. “Before You Know It” comes off of his  debut release Big:A Wonderful New Cassette. It lures you in from the start with it’s synth driven intro, dreamy effects, and relaxed atmosphere. I’m digging Sullivan’s vocal work as well.   Definitely something to bump in the afternoon and kick back to.Big is up for a whatever price you choose on bandcamp and hear more by visiting his soundcloud
