Slow

CASE WORK -

CASE WORK-Slow

Back in March I did an interview with Chandler Strang, the front man of Orlando outfit Saskatchewan. I’ve enjoyed every thing that’s came from the band thus far and so when I found out last night that Chandler started a new project on the side I didn’t hesitate at all to go like it on facebook. The name of the project is CASE WORK and it’s far from the dreamy, R&B esque sounds of Strang’s original musical endeavor. The first single “Slow” just went up on soundcloud a few hours ago and it’s irrefutably catchy and full of good vibes from beginning to end. As soon as I press play I get the urge to immediately hit up the closest beach and bask in the summer sun with this track blasting at full volume in the background. CASE WORK picked a wonderful time to debut and I’ll be looking forward to hearing whatever comes next.

Saucer Eyes

SNOWMINE - Saucer Eyes

SNOWMINE-Suacer Eyes

Sometimes you just need that perfect track to get the day started right and I’ve found just that from Brooklyn five piece SNOWMINE. I’ve been a fan of these guys ever since I heard their first LP Laminate Pet Animal earlier this year and back in April they dropped the fresh new track “Saucer Eyes” along with a psychedelic take on Twin Sister’s “Meet The Frownies”. The band incorporates their own unique feel on the ever popular indie pop sound by adding beautiful ambiance, soothing harmonies, and rich electronics that help to emit vivid imagery throughout each track. SNOWMINE often reminds me of a less folky Fleet Foxes or a more dynamic Death Cab For Cutie but regardless of comparisons they’re certainly a band to look out for. You can listen and grab more material from the group by visiting their bandcamp page.

Gasoline

Alpine - A Is For Alpine

Alpine-Gasoline

Still riding on the success of last year’s EP Zurich, Australian six piece Alpine are back with a new single and an upcoming LP as well. The album titled A Is For Alpine will  be released in August on Ivy League Records and after hearing the track “Gasoline” I’ve fallen even harder for the quirky, lovely vocals of the group’s front women Phoebe and Lou. Musically the band has improved on their style of dreamy, indie pop by delivering a sound that’s more sophisticated and straightforward but also more diverse than their previous effort. I’ll be all ears for the next single to drop from Alpine but for now you can stream the track along with their Zurich EP in it’s entirety over on soundcloud.

Sad Shape

Dignan Porch - Nothing Bad Ever Happens

Dignan Porch-Sad Shape

While I admit that I didn’t give the debut effort of this band the attention that it probably deserved they’ve definitely won me over now. Maybe it has something to do with that Captured Tracks charm that I just can’t deny but whatever it might be I do know that the London based solo project of Joe Walsh, Dignan Porch has now expanded into a five piece and they’ve just made a new fan. “Sad Shape” is the third single released from their sophomore LP Nothing Bad Will Ever Happen which drops on August 14th and every time I listen to this track I seem to lose myself for the entire duration. It starts off as a slowly uplifiting indie tune and quickly turns into a song wrapped up in deep psychedelia that could’ve easily been the result of a drug induced haze. Also, I don’t know if there’s any relevance at all but the name Dignan instantly reminds me of Owen Wilson’s character in Bottle Rocket and for that I love this band a little bit more. Check out the videos for “Pink Oil” and “Picking Up Dust”, the other two singles off of Nothing Bad Will Ever Happen, by visiting the band’s youtube channel and stop by their bandcamp page to stream and purchase older material (including the debut Tendrils) for various prices.

Seapony - What You Wanted

Seapony-What You Wanted

Ever since I first heard The Unicorns back in high school I’ve developed a special place in my heart for indie pop, and now after listening to the new track from Seattle three piece Seapony I’ve had to make some extra room. Jen, Danny, and Ian won me over last year with their debut LP Go With Me and now they’ve done it again with the feel good vibes of “What You Wanted”. Seapony’s charm lies in the fact that their songs, while somewhat simplistic, are surrounded by pure dreamy bliss with a hint of 60’s surf rock nostalgia and I for one can’t help but to love every bit. Their sophomore album Falling is due out in September on Hardly Art but in the meantime you can stream some of their older material on bandcamp as well as Spotify. Recommended for fans of Girls Names, Minks, and Young Prisms.

Michael

Weird Dreams - Choreography

Weird Dreams-Micheal

What do you get when you blend the sounds reminiscent of bands like Ducktails and Of Montreal with a hint of Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti? You would have UK five piece Weird Dreams. While I mean these comparisons in the best way possible, the band certainly has their own individual style which sets them apart from other various newcomers. I’ve been jamming along to their debut LP Choreography ever since hearing “Little Girl” via the soundcloud of their record label Tough Love and the only bad thing I’d have to say about it is that like all albums it eventually comes to an end. I was pleasantly surprised as the album progressed and it seemed to get better with every single song. Choreography is full of lo fi and psychedelic goodness while still capturing a bright, jangly indie pop sound and “Micheal” is just one of twelve other great racks. I highly recommend doing your ears a favor and checking out this band. So if you’ve got spotify, which most people do, be sure to give them a listen.
