CASSETTE REWIND: HORIZONS MIXTAPE

To be completely honest, when I first created Cassette Rewind back in March of last year I never thought that it’d grow to be anything close to what it is now. So in celebration of that and whatever it is that the future may bring, here’s a new mixtape titled HORIZONS.  Thanks to Hunter of Suburban Tours for doing the cover art (on top of all of the recent stuff as well) and everyone featured on the mix for making the music that made it possible to put this together. Mirror Kisses-runaways

A lot of great music came out last year and out of all of the bands that I came across in 2012, Virginia’s Mirror Kisses was one group that not only stuck out, but also got me into a whole new world of music. Depending on who you ask, some may say that there’s an excessive amount of artists influenced by the 80’s right now but regardless, nobody makes it sound quite as lustrous and ravishing as Mirror Kisses. The band will be dropping Heartbeats, the follow up album to last year’s Bad Dreams, sometime in April or May and if their latest track “runaways” proves anything, it’s that this album is going to be a full flavored, electrifying dose of synthpop at it’s finest. Okay so I know that I said that I’d be waiting a few months before I put together a new mixtape but I lied. Since Halloween is right around the corner I figured that I’d follow suit of some other blogs/labels and post a neat little mixtape to celebrate and also to just give you all something to chill and move to. The mix is titled DΔRK DΔZE and it features a nice collection of some post punk, new wave, and experimental tunes to get you in the mood along with some other stuff to balance things out. LUST & Mirror Kisses-Love My Way (Psychedelic Furs Cover)

When I saw that new wave duo Mirror Kisses and electronic producer Dillon Morton aka LUST did a song together I instantly stopped what I was doing and went to check it out for myself. The track is a cover of The Psychedelic Furs’ hit song “Love My Way” and it’s apart of Synesthesiae Films new compilation Alternative States which will be out fairly soon I’m guessing. The cover does an amazing job of paying tribute to the group yet it still offers a new twist to the song as well. George sounds exceptional and I couldn’t see anyone else doing a better job vocally while LUST provides a sensational dreamy feel that’s delivered in a subtle yet grand way. I can’t wait to hear the compilation in it’s entirety but I’ve got both Colourcast releases to hold me over until then. BOYWITHOUTMEMORY-Heights

Well, it’s that time again when I start digging through the digital crates of bandcamp for some more quality ear magic. It seems that I’m in a sort of musical time machine tonight so it’s only fitting that I’d post something with such a strong 80’s atmosphere. The track comes from Belgium artist Sebastian Fishbeck, the mind behind BOYWITHOUTMEMORY. Earlier this year he released his debut ep Heights which consists of four dazzling songs wrapped up in smooth new wave atmospheres that were made to make you get off of your feet and dance. The title track is a retro gem that’s driven by a heavy use of pulsating synths and Fishbeck’s peculiar vocal style. You can stream Heights in it’s entirety over on soundcloud or purchase it via bandcamp for around $5.
