Ever since I finished my first On Deck interview back in January, I’ve been constantly thinking of what label should be the focus for number two until it hit me earlier last week (long time to think, I know). Memory No. 36 Recordings is an up and coming cassette label based out of Windsor, Canada that was started back in October by Ricardo Stacey (aka Cassida Pax). The label has been steadily winning me over more and more over the months with every new release so here’s to hoping that the same will happen to you.

Along Came December-No Umbrella
Earlier today I was introduced to Canata Records when I came across a band that’s signed to the label called Youth Club through a fellow music blogger on twitter (Suburban Tours). The first few words on Canata’s bandcamp page is “we believe in pop. we believe pop is freedom.” and every artist they’ve signed is a representation of that in some way or another. While I was searching through their discography I discovered Along Came December, the solo project of UK resident Glenn Jones and though his music definitely has slight pop elements to it, it’s also surrounded by a dark, post-punk feeling as well. Glenn blends heartfelt lyricism with echoing guitar chords, slow progression, and ethereal atmospheres that easily absorb the listener and leaves them in a pensive state of mind. His latest EP Lost Memories is available for free along with two others, Is It Art Yet? & Signs, and if you visit Along Came December’s personal bandcamp you can pick up the older (and longer) version of Signs for $4.48.

I’ve had this band’s soundcloud open in my tabs for quite some time now and though I’m not quite sure why it took so long for me to post about them I’m certain that you’ll love their music as much as I do. The track comes from Hollie Hensman and Derrick George, a duo out of Montreal who go by the name of Brusque Twins. I came across their music a few weeks ago and ever since I’ve been digging their dark, synth heavy style of new wave. They recently dropped their second EP A Voice In The Night which is a journey through six tracks of magnificent, captivating post punk influenced sounds. Hensman’s voice is full of beauty and grace and George plays off of it perfectly with haunting synths and mesmerizing ambiance. A Voice In The Night is available on bandcamp for $5 along with the duo’s first EP Cliff Dweller, which you can grab for free. You can also stream their material from soundcloud as well. Recommended for fans of Black City Lights, Selebrities, and Esben and The Witch.
