Sea Dweller-I Sea the see from here

While doing my usual internet browsing the other day I came across a label based out of Tokyo by the name of Hands and Moment. Right away I noticed a few favorites (T4PES, Soft Lighting) but one group in particular stuck out with a particularly glossy and hazy demeanor. Sea Dweller is a three piece hailing from Roma that has a knack for blending luminous dream pop melodies with mind numbing psychedelia and gauzy, noise driven shoegaze and while they’re not poised to be the next MBV or Half-String that’s certainly no reason to miss out on this trio. “I Sea the see from here” comes off of their latest full length album Signs of a Perfect Disaster and you can grab it digitally or on vinyl now by heading over to bandcamp

BART SIMPSON

Blood Sister - ‡

Blood Sister-BART SIMPSON

Even though I was fairly new to the crunchy, lo-fi driven sounds of Brooklyn five piece NIGHT MANAGER at the time of their break up, I still had to go through somewhat of a grieving period, one that would’ve been cut short if I had known that it would lead to something new and equally as enthralling. Blood Sister is the latest project from NIGHT MANAGER’s Ezana Edwards and GangliansRyan Grubbs and despite having only two track available on their soundcloud right now, their fizzing, aberrant sound has already begun to make itself at home inside of my head. I’m crossing my fingers and hoping that there’s more to come from this duo very soon but for now, be sure to head over to bandcamp and grab “BART SIMPSON” along with “Why Would You” for a “name your own” price.

Pajama People - Cool Intentions

Pajama People-Drum

Twitter usually isn’t my go to source for hearing new music but when I came across a band out of Brooklyn by the name of Pajama People, I was intrigued. I’ll admit that their name brought about most of my curiosity and even now I’m not quite sure what I was expecting to hear, but after getting my fill of their material on bandcamp I came to two conclusions: one, this band really likes rugs and two, even when it comes to a music mecca like Brooklyn, a sense of originality can still be found. There’s a strong sense of nostalgia that comes along with Pajama People’s eclectic and hypnotizing dream pop sound, and even when it’s drowned in glittering electronics or enveloped by a psychedelic haze, it still remains to exist in an ethereal splendor. Look for their their upcoming album Cool Intentions to (hopefully) drop sometime soon and in the meantime, head over to bandcamp to grab their two EPs, I Like Your Rugs and After The Gold Rugs, along with the track “They Keep Saying” for a “name your own” price.

I Am Ready

Pati Yang -

Pati Yang-I Am Ready

Since I’m slowly getting back into the flow of things here I figured that now was a better time than ever to go digging through the long list of emails and submissions that I received during my little break. Of course it’s not the most fun thing to do but it’s tracks like “I Am Ready” that make it more rewarding and not so tedious. The single is the first taste of what Poland native Pati Yang has to offer with her upcoming solo full length and it’s had me trapped and charmed from the beginning.Yang’s voice seeps in quick with a deep, sensual tone that’s eerily beautiful yet undeniably alluring and as the frigid psychedelic tones build and slip out from the track’s underlying shadowy presence, “I Am Ready” presents itself as something enigmatic and memorable. There’s no doubt in my mind that Pati Yang’s upcoming album will be anything less than magical and while I’m waiting for a release date, I’ll be kicking myself for not knowing about her a lot sooner. You can download the track now for a limited time by heading over to soundcloud

Suki and Me

Alex Calder - Time EP

Alex Calder-Suki and Me

While comparisons can be a good indication of what you’re about to hear I kind of feel like it can take away from the artists’ sense of individuality as well.  So with that being said, don’t confuse Mac DeMarco with Captured Tracks’ latest addition (and former Makeout Videotape member) Alex Calder. It’s evident from Calder’s debut single “Suki and Me” that there’s a certain nonchalant stupor about his music but even still, the track has a special way of grabbing a tight hold of the listener and surrounding them in a smoke filled haze that’s riddled with numbing reverb, vintage rock tendencies, and contorted psychedelia. With “Suki and Me”, things are looking quite promising for Alex Calder and because of that, I’m definitely looking forward to hearing his debut Time EP when it drops on March 26th.

Sun

Au.Ra -

Au.Ra-Sun

Now that the semester is done I can finally get back to doing one of the things that I love, which is posting great tunes for all of you. After going through my submissions I came across the tranquil, psychedelic sounds of a duo hailing from Sydney by the name of Au.Ra andtheir track “Sun” turned out to be exactly what I needed to kick off a few weeks of pure fun and relaxation. The track is surrounded by a mesmerizing ambiance that’s carried along by lush sounding guitars, hypnotic vocals, and a warm, reverb induced haze that’s easily reminiscent of something from Tame Impala’s Lonerism. I’ll be keeping my ear to these guys and you can too by following them on soundcloud
