OH YEAH

NUDITY-OH YEAH

Nashville’s NUDITY definitely knows how to turn heads and it’s not just because of their inviting choice for a band name. The duo first drew me in with the eccentric, dance floor bound, garage rock grit of their debut album HEAVY PETTING and now I’m cranking the volume all the way up again because they just dropped their SUPERNATTY 7” earlier today. Instead of the flashy electronics that illuminated their past material, this time around NUDITY brings a more straightforward, rock n roll sound that’s laced in 90’s pop fuzz and beer soaked glamour. If you needed any reason to actually like a Monday then this would easily be one of them, so be sure to grab SUPERNATTY now by heading over to bandcamp and grabbing a copy to pump through your speakers. Digital copies are available via AMDISCS for $2.99 while limited edition vinyl copies are available through Happenin Records for $5.99.

Suki and Me

Alex Calder - Time EP

Alex Calder-Suki and Me

While comparisons can be a good indication of what you’re about to hear I kind of feel like it can take away from the artists’ sense of individuality as well.  So with that being said, don’t confuse Mac DeMarco with Captured Tracks’ latest addition (and former Makeout Videotape member) Alex Calder. It’s evident from Calder’s debut single “Suki and Me” that there’s a certain nonchalant stupor about his music but even still, the track has a special way of grabbing a tight hold of the listener and surrounding them in a smoke filled haze that’s riddled with numbing reverb, vintage rock tendencies, and contorted psychedelia. With “Suki and Me”, things are looking quite promising for Alex Calder and because of that, I’m definitely looking forward to hearing his debut Time EP when it drops on March 26th.

My Kind of Woman

Mac DeMarco - 2

Mac DeMarco-My Kind Of Woman

For something that was a part of such a hilarious facade Mac DeMarco’s Rock And Roll Night Club EP did quite well earlier this year. The release was full of incredibly catchy, slightly over sensualized, lo-fi saturated songs that had a special way of bringing listeners closer to DeMarco’s world and once it was over fans were left expecting what would come next and when. Well on October 16th the former Makeout Videotape front man will be dropping his debut full length on Captured Tracks simply named 2 and luckily enough we already have a small taste of what to expect. The first single from the album a slow, almost romantic number titled “My Kind of Woman”. It’s stripped down and straightforward but honestly that’s what makes the track that much more enjoyable. “My Kind Of Woman” is available for a free download on soundcloud and you can stream Rock and Roll Night Club via Spotify.

Apocalypse Dreams

Tame Impala - Apocalypse Dreams

Tame Impala-Apocalypse Dreams

Kevin Parker has been a busy man lately. He’s been in the studio mixing and recording with Melody Prochet of Melody’s Echo Chamber (check out “Crystallized”) and also working on new material with his psych rock outfit Tame Impala. Earlier this week the band dropped news of a sophomore record titled Lonerism and with that came a new track from the LP titled “Apocalypse Dreams”. Of course when I found out about this I had to visit Pitchfork to hear the single for myself and needless to say, I was thoroughly impressed. If you thought that 2010’s Innerspeaker was as good as it gets then you’re certainly mistaken because Tame Impala has only improved on their blissful style of psychedelia pop since then. I promise that I’m completely sober at the moment but when I put on “Apocalypse Dreams” it’s like I’m in a completely different state of mind. If you think I’m just over exaggerating then listen to the track for yourself and I’m sure that you’ll catch my drift. You can grab the song for free via Pitchfork and expect the group to drop the next single “Elephant” later this month. Lonerism is scheduled for an October release through Modular People.

One thing that I love about coming home is hearing new music that my friends have recent discovered. Today we were listening to this band and I was instantly hooked. The name of the group is The Dead Revolt and they’re a three piece progressive band from Houston. They definitely sound similar to The Fall Of Troy and The Mars Volta but they also have their own unique feel and that’s what sets them apart as an individual band. The main thing that really sticks out to me though is how they often times hint at influences from some late 60’s early 70’s rock bands like Led Zepplin and Black Sabbath. Their debut album The Substace of Things Not Seen as well as their sophomore album Vaixer are both available on bandcamp for whatever price you choose to pay.
