GUEST MIX: SECRET MOUNTAINS
Every now and then you might come across a band that just sticks out and stays in your head for all of the right reasons and when you first hear that track that hits way harder than expected, the feeling can be irreplaceable and unforgettable. Last year I was introduced to the Baltimore six piece known as Secret Mountains with their track “Rejoice” and from that moment on their hazy, atmospheric blend of dream pop, shoegaze, and psychedelic rock has been something that’s kept me completely captivated. A few weeks ago their guitarist Jeffrey Silverstein contacted me about doing a guest mix and since I love the diversity that they bring to the blog, I couldn’t possibly decline. Below you’ll find sixteen tracks that were compiled to propel you into a beautiful unknown filled with perplexities and vivid surroundings and it’s things such as this mix that reminds me of just how wondrous music can be.
Secret Mountains will be releasing their debut LP, Rainer, on February 26th via Friends Records and if you haven’t yet then I’d definitely recommend pre-ordering a copy here. You can hear “Coasting”, the first single from the album, here and if you want to check out more material from the band then you can do so by heading over to their soundcloud.

FLUX

CASSETTE REWIND: FLUX

Originally this was my fourth mixtape but since I decided to not post Beamz anymore it’s now my third instead. There’s some greenville local talent to be heard from two producers that I know work hard and love their craft, Brooks Brackett & Rich Engli$h. Furthermore there’s a wonderful cover of The Weeknd’s “The Morning” by SASKATCHEWAN, a personal favorite of mine. Other artists include TOP GIRLS, Lemonade, Moon Bounce, PERSONA LA AVE who does great work with an Aaliyah sample, and a lot more. As always support the artists any way you can and feel free to like and reblog!

Secret Mountains-Golden Blue

Secret Mountains-Golden Blue

Thanks to Bandcamp Hunter I’ve found the next piece of ear magic to share with all of you. It comes from Baltimore six piece Secret Mountains, a group that I’ve been quite fond of for some months now. I featured their single “Rejoice” on my FLUX mixtape and today I was happy to find that they released a new ep titled Winter Sessions back in March. After listening to this gorgeous three track release I’m convinced that Secret Mountains just keeps getting better. As always Kelly Laughlin’s vocals provide the listener with absolute serenity while the band creates soundscapes full of splendor and blissful imagery. Their music can be described as a combination of soul, psychedelic rock, and indie that all help to make a truly emotional and breathtaking experience. The band is signed to the amazing label Friends Records which offers a slew of equally talented artists. Be sure to check them all out on bandcamp and while you’re there grab Winter Sessions by naming your own price.
