That's Cheap

Triathalon - Seshing

Triathalon-That’s Cheap

Seeing as how I have submissions open, I’ve been trying to make more of an effort to actually go through them on a more day to day basis and if I needed any convincing then “That’s Cheap” surely did the trick. Hailing from Savannah, GA and making one hell of a first impression with a heavy dose surf rock vibes and an undeniable motown influence is the four piece known as Triathalon. Their latest EP, Seshing, is a vivacious three track release that isn’t afraid to lay on the charm and crank out the soul throughout its duration, and once you hit play you’ll be swaying along and taken away before you know it. Head over to bandcamp to grab it for a “name your own” price and be sure to check out a few other releases while you’re there.

Silkies - Like One - EP

Silkies-Movies

Well it’s that time again and as always I’m quite excited. Young Latitudes recently dropped another new release and just as expected, it’s one that I’ve grown to be quite fond of. YL always demonstrates an ear for versatility among an array of talented artists and Like One, the debut EP from Austin, Texas duo Silkies, is no different. Silkies consists of Caufield Schnug and Lira Mondal and it’s fun from the second that you hit play. Mondal’s vocals are full of exuberance and the lyrics carries a certain charm that makes it incredibly hard to not be drawn in. The music fits the tone perfectly as well. Silkies sound like they came straight from a pop radio station in the 60’s and despite the season, their raw surf/ garage rock atmosphere is still incredibly appealing and catchy. Like One is a definite pick me up for any day and Silkies youthful nature is something that just about anyone can come to enjoy. You can grab a digital copy of the release by paying a “name your own” price over at bandcamp or if you want a cassette copy, you can pick up one by heading over to Heart Throb Records bandcamp and paying either 4 euros or $5.11. Also, don’t forget to go like the band on facebook to keep updated.

Vanity Daze

Sin Kitty -

Sin Kitty-Vanity Daze

Everyone can use a dose of psychedelia every now and then and Asheville four piece Sin Kitty is exactly what you should be prescribed for your listening pleasure. Their latest track, “Vanity Daze”, grips listeners right from the get go and it carries them through a haze of slow grinding ecstasy that’s full of psychedelic nostalgia and slight elements of surf rock to help pick up the pace. Some may argue that it’s not possible to get high off of music but then again they’ve probably never listened to a Sin Kitty track.  On the about section of their facebook page they describe themselves as “teenage voodoo pop” and I honestly can’t think of a more fitting description seeing as how I their sound had me completely spellbound. I post a lot about artists that are miles and miles away but at the end of the day it’s always good to see a band so close to where I live that I enjoy so thoroughly. If you head over to bandcamp now you can grab this single along with the two track release If You Wanna & the Wonder When EP for a “name your own” price and don’t forget to check out the band on soundcloud as well.

Slow

CASE WORK -

CASE WORK-Slow

Back in March I did an interview with Chandler Strang, the front man of Orlando outfit Saskatchewan. I’ve enjoyed every thing that’s came from the band thus far and so when I found out last night that Chandler started a new project on the side I didn’t hesitate at all to go like it on facebook. The name of the project is CASE WORK and it’s far from the dreamy, R&B esque sounds of Strang’s original musical endeavor. The first single “Slow” just went up on soundcloud a few hours ago and it’s irrefutably catchy and full of good vibes from beginning to end. As soon as I press play I get the urge to immediately hit up the closest beach and bask in the summer sun with this track blasting at full volume in the background. CASE WORK picked a wonderful time to debut and I’ll be looking forward to hearing whatever comes next.

Seapony - What You Wanted

Seapony-What You Wanted

Ever since I first heard The Unicorns back in high school I’ve developed a special place in my heart for indie pop, and now after listening to the new track from Seattle three piece Seapony I’ve had to make some extra room. Jen, Danny, and Ian won me over last year with their debut LP Go With Me and now they’ve done it again with the feel good vibes of “What You Wanted”. Seapony’s charm lies in the fact that their songs, while somewhat simplistic, are surrounded by pure dreamy bliss with a hint of 60’s surf rock nostalgia and I for one can’t help but to love every bit. Their sophomore album Falling is due out in September on Hardly Art but in the meantime you can stream some of their older material on bandcamp as well as Spotify. Recommended for fans of Girls Names, Minks, and Young Prisms.

Pelican Dive

Swiss Alps - Vacation Spirit: A Hearing Gold Compilation

Swiss Alps-Pelican Dive

This nice little jangle pop gem landed in my soundcloud dropbox earlier yesterday and I’m just wondering how I didn’t come across this group sooner. The name of the band is Swiss Alps and they’re a three piece that hails from Pennsylvania. They released their debut self titled ep back in March but “Pelican Dive” is the latest track that the band has to offer. Apart from the dreamy surf rock vibes and pop tendencies of the track I also picked up on a 60’s beach type feel that helps drive the song perfectly and also sets Swiss Alps apart from being falling into the typical twee pop sound that grows ever more popular around this time. “Pelican Dive” also happens to be apart of the new Hearing Gold compilation Vacation Spirit which just dropped last week. Whether you want to drown your ears in lo-fi atmospheres or bask in the warm summer sun I suggest picking up the band’s ep first over on bandcamp and visiting their soundcloud as well. Also be sure to grab Vacation Spirit along with other compilations from Hearing Gold’s bandcamp page for whatever price you choose to pay. It features tracks from a few personal favorites of mine such as Grand Resort, HOUNDSds, and Bedroom along with plenty of other great artists. Swiss Alps is recommended for fans of Echo Lake, Beach Fossils, and Ducktails.
