TROPICS - Popup Cinema
TROPICS-Popup Cinema
I’ve been up since 8am this morning and seeing as I have to work later today, I really don’t know why I’m awake right now but since I’m set on making this a good Friday regardless, I had to pick the right song to get things off in the right direction. For some reason Popup Cinema, the follow up to Tropics’ (Chris Ward) 2011 debut Parodia Flare, seemed to float underneath my radar when it was released in November of last year but now that I’ve got my hands on it, it has more or less become the soundtrack to my life during these last few weeks. The title track bursts at the seams with a slow burning intimacy that often times sounds reminiscent of Caribou’s Swim, and throughout the rest of the EP, Ward manages to set the mood and pull listeners in with fanciful lyricism, silky vocals, and an atmospheric driven tenderness that easily brings out the sensual side in everyone that wanders in its path. Even though Parodia Flare was so wonderfully constructed, this time around, things are more mature and well rounded, confirming the fact that Tropics is a name you’d do well to be familiar with. If you haven’t had your full dose of Tropics yet then head over to soundcloud where more material is available.
